The best time to visit is late February and early March. Tundra Swan is larger with white body, black beak and black feet. Snow goose is smaller with white body, black wing tips, and pink beak and feet.

                                Early February, the lake is frozen - there were fewer birds.



















2021 March 8:

  • Snow Geese: 90,000 (count of geese roosting on the lake this morning – weekend afternoon counts were over 120,000).
  • Canada Geese: 1,500
  • Tundra Swans: 1,050

2020 Migration Summary:

Peak numbers of the large waterfowl, by species and the date the high-count was recorded:
      Snow geese: 125,000 on 02/18/20
      Tundra swans: 3,000 on 02/07/20
      Canada geese: 3,000 on 02/03/20
